I have a small business and I'm new to it all, and it would never have occurred to me that business credit could work differently than personal credit. Sure enough, this book outlines how to build business credit without taking on risk. The concepts are clearly presented, the methods and step-by-step clearly outlined. Very well-written, very well-organized.
The Credit Game is a book about using credit or other people’s money to build a business without initial credit checks that lead to hard inquiries that will affect your credit score, no cash flow issues and no collateral issues. It is about how to obtain the capital one needs to build a business without spending your own money to do it. There are specific steps on how to build business credit that are easy to understand and easy to implement if one is patient and does their homework. Building a business is tough, because I own one and this book should have been in my library of knowledge when I first started. There is a section describing a 5-step credit building system which includes filing the appropriate legal documents to establish your business, how to set up your business’s financial profile, how to optimize your profiles, how to build your credit line, revolving credit lines, and how to obtain business credit cards. All these factors require time and effort, but it can lead to obtaining funding without spending your own money. I found the section on how to seek and engage investors in your business to be right on target. Great information for folks wanting to start a business.
The book lacks a contents page, making it difficult to know where to find anything. Although the cover mentions an "EIN", what that acronym stands for is not revealed until page 24 and even then the reader has to guess from the heading because it's not explicitly stated. This is not a clear way of conveying information to people who don't already know what you're talking about. All acronyms should always be spelt out in full the first time they're used with their letters included in brackets next to what they stand for. Some of the information seems rather obvious, e.g. having a bank account helps build business credit. Yet it's a shame how colour was only used for advertising at the end instead of taking the opportunity to include some images helpful to the reader throughout the book. There are some additional resources and notes supplied but the QR code was so tiny it wouldn't work on my device even at 110% zoom.
Great read for beginners looking to build or improve their business credit and get initial funding. Would recommend for new business owners or budding entrepreneurs.
